As a Google partner, Evonence excels in Data engineering and Looker. Evonence worked to centralize data from various sources, optimize, secure and establish logical data structures and create visually appealing dashboards for valuable insights.
The challenge:
The challenges encountered while ingesting data from various APIs into BigQuery include dependent jobs fetching outdated files daily and weekly, BigQuery tables not updating with the latest data, and "Saleschecks" columns appearing as JSON instead of RECORD. Additional issues include limited error handling for response codes (429, 503, 200), a misplaced cursor outside the response header condition, and query performance problems during Looker dashboard creation.
The solution:
External tables were created instead of native tables. A JSON schema was provided while creating tables to handle "Saleschecks" columns. An if-else condition was added in the Cloud Run job script to improve error handling, along with incorporating a cursor and limit in the headers. Native partitioned tables with a date range were created to optimize query performance in Looker dashboards.
The Result:
The tables are now properly updated with the latest data for both daily and weekly schedules. Response codes (429, 503, 200) are functioning as expected, with data correctly ingesting when the response code is 200. Additionally, query performance has improved, with data now loading in seconds.
